A SHORT HISTORY OF THE AGAPITOS GROUP OF COMPANIES

The Agapitos Family (starting with brothers Ioannis and Vassilios) has been involved in the passenger Greek coastal shipping trade as far back as the early 60’s when they formed AGAPITOS LINES – owning, operating and managing a fleet of ferries. The company was strengthened when Konstantinos and Antonios (respective sons of Ioannis and Vassilios), joined the family business following completion of their maritime studies. Between 1964 and 1992, the AGAPITOS LINES expanded its activities in the Greek Ferries Business diversifying its routes and becoming a key player in the market.

In 1992, brothers Ioannis and Vassilios parted ways.

Ioannis Agapitos and his son Konstantinos formed AGAPITOS EXPRESS FERRIES ASSOCIATION (AEFA) with Konstantinos at the helm as CEO. Building on the Agapitos Family long-standing experience, AEFA concentrated on further improving quality and innovative management to create a company capable of growing while at the same time be able to meet the demands of a rapidly changing market. AEFA’s impressive expansion and development within short period of time is a testament to their efforts with a fleet of ferries performing emerging and lucrative routes between Piraeus and the islands of Syros, Tinos, Mykonos and Paros, Naxos, Ios, Santorini.

In 1998, AEFA also entered the Ro/Ro market with the acquisition of 4 vessels.

In 1999, AEFA was purchased by Minoan Flying Dolphins (later renamed Hellas Flying Dolphins and currently known as Hellenic SeaWays). Konstantinos Agapitos, being the sole shareholder of AEFA at the time of the purchase, became the largest individual shareholder in this new company.
